The Money in the Bank match is held yearly at Wrestlemania. It consists of six to eight wrestlers, depending on the year. Realistically, this is a match set-up to push a future challenger, to showcase athletic wrestlers, and to include some workers on the years biggest show that otherwise would be left off due to a lack of a strong fued or storyline.

After sustaining a triceps injury, the WWE decided to write Mr. Kennedy out of the MITB. He lost the briefcase on May 7th to Edge in an impromptu challenge match.

Some Money In the Bank Facts

  • MITB has been cashed in four times. All four have gone on to win their match-ups
  • MITD in the bank winners are usually boarderline heavyweights. A true heavyweight has yet to win this match.
  • Of the four “cash-ins” only one, Rob Van Dam vs John Cena, has been a full length match
  • The past three MITB have all been cashed in within two and half months following Wrestlemania.
  • The lone exception was the first MITB, cashed in January 8th 2006 by Edge.
  • Chris Jericho is given storyline credit as the creator of the money in the bank match-up.
  • Shelton Benjamin holds the all-time record for money in the bank appearances with three
